On our way back from Jokkmokk we stopped in Boden. The fortress in Boden was built to defense northern Sweden against possible Russian attack. Although its existence was kept in secret, Russian intelligence learned about it at the beginning of XX century only. After WW II it was the place securing Swedish gold reserves. After the Cold War, in 1998 the fortress lost its strategic defence functions and was converted into museum. In Boden you can also find small church town...
